We have developed a multi-scale, anatomically accurate digital twin model to simulate sacral neuromodulation (SNM) and related neurotechnologies, such as pudendal neuromodulation (PNM) and transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation (tSCS).

Our project aims to drive innovation and optimization in neuromodulation technologies through computational modeling, enhancing their clinical applications. The key focus areas of our research include:

  1. In-depth understanding of sacral nerve root anatomy: Using anatomical accurate computational models, we simulate the neural innervation between sacral structures and the digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems, shedding light on their complex physiological relationships. This will provide a foundation for developing personalized treatment plans.
  2. Optimization of SNM stimulation parameters: By leveraging computational models to explore the mechanisms of SNM, we aim to optimize stimulation parameters and propose new recommendations that enhance the clinical efficacy of SNM therapy, contributing to the refinement of clinical guidelines.
  3. Development of novel SNM stimulation protocols: Through simulation and experimental validation, we design innovative stimulation protocols to selectively activate specific nerve fibers or block neural conduction, thereby improving the precision and outcomes of neuromodulation treatments.
  4. Advancing pudendal nerve stimulation technology: For pudendal neuromodulation, we propose and optimize electrode designs, offering more efficient stimulation protocols that aim to provide better solutions for treating lower urinary tract disorders and pelvic floor dysfunction.
  5. Innovating percutaneous sacral nerve root stimulation strategies: We explore new strategies for percutaneous sacral nerve root stimulation, designing and validating improved electrode layouts and stimulation methods to enhance the effectiveness and practicality of this technique.

Through this research, we aim to deliver new insights and tools for the field of neuromodulation, driving the development of next-generation neuromodulation therapies.
